Merry Christmas to all!
Another Christmas has come and gone here in the Allen household. It was a good day, different from Christmases past, but good all the same. Usually our Christmas traditions consisted of getting out of bed around 9 a.m., getting coffee, and then opening presents. After we would all get ready to go to my grandparent’s house and we would have a very traditional Italian Christmas dinner.
But as I said, this Christmas was very different from any other before it. This year, we had my brother and his family here with us (they had previously been in Texas). This was also the first of many that is to be endured without my grandpa who passed away in April.
On the night of Christmas Eve, as I knelt beside my bed and said my prayers, I realized how sad I was that my grandpa would not be celebrating this day with us. I remembered all the years that we got to spend this holiday with him and all of a sudden he is not with us. And it will be this way for the rest of our lives. That is a sad reality to live with.
But even though the circumstances surrounding our family’s holiday were very different from last year and every other year before it, it was still a good Christmas celebration.
One thing I changed this Christmas is the amount of time I spend with Jesus in the morning. After all, it is HIS birthday! I began with prayer and proceeded to read the precious story of Christ’s birth from the gospel of Luke. Wow! The circumstances surrounding his birth were so intense, but in what other way would God bring His Son into the world? He knew He wanted everyone for generations to marvel at these circumstances from which He brought forth His precious Son.
Some of the verses that stood out the most in the story were Luke 1:28-33
28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” 29 But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
How amazing is that?! Everything, from the beginning of time, was planned out by God the Father, and bringing His Son into this world was one of the highlights! How powerful Jesus was planned to be and still is right now at this very moment! His Kingdom truly has no end, and the coolest part is… ALL who confess His name get to proclaim that they are a part of a Kingdom that has NO END! That is GLORIOUS!
Friends, I sincerely hope that Jesus found you this Christmas and you found Him! No matter where any of us may find ourselves, no matter the circumstances making up our lives, we must remember who is really in control of it all. His name is Jesus, and He is sitting at the right hand of the Father, interceding on our behalf and praying for every single person that has breath in their lungs! Remember, friends, Jesus desires you so run to Him! He can make every single thing in your life work together for a greater purpose than anything you could ever imagine!
Merry Christmas everybody!
<3, Grace 🙂
